Firetide has filled out its HotPort 7000 line of wireless mesh network equipment with two products: a controller appliance and mesh network equipment operating in the 900 MHz band. Both products were unveiled today at the 2010 ASIS International Seminar and Exhibits in Dallas.

The new Firetide Mobility Controller (FMC-2050) is a high-capacity management solution for advanced wireless infrastructure mobility, the company said. The controller allows Ethernet-enabled devices such as IP video cameras, WiFi access points, RFID readers and laptops to maintain network connectivity while traveling at high speeds across multiple Firetide mesh networks. The solution is being used to support video surveillance in wireless networks built for the Seoul Subway and Mumbai Metro.

The controller eliminates the need for a third-party server and can handle a range of 30 to 50 nodes, depending on the environment, said Ksenia Coffman, marketing manager at Firetide. It will be available in quantities in the first quarter of 2011, she said.

The HotPort 7000-900 non-line-of-sight wireless mesh solution operates in the 900 MHz spectrum to support high bandwidth transmission in areas where surroundings, such as foliage, or high precipitation can interfere with 2.4, 4.9 and 5 GHz radio links, Coffman said. The 900 MHz radios are compatible with other radios in the 7000 line, and can support MIMO links, she added. They will be available for shipment later this quarter, she said.
